It’s edible, and doesn’t smell, May 21, 2014

Cat’s eat it. Cat’s litter box smells less than other brands. Cat’s however may be planning to kill me in my sleep since I refuse to give them wet cat food more than once a day.

but lately it seems like they like one bag, August 14, 2014

I’m not really sure what’s going on here. I have used this food for my personal cats and fosters for over a year, but lately it seems like they like one bag, then I open the next and they start throwing it up everywhere. If I then immediately give them food from ANOTHER bag of the same food, they’re fine again. Seems like there may be quality control issues? Or storage issues? All I know is that I’m not certain whether my cats are going to throw up from one bag to the next, and they ALL start doing it immediately with the bad bags. Obviously, when I get a bad bag, I don’t make them eat it, and this has resulted in some waste, which basically negates the cost savings garnered from using Amazon. I remember this happening occasionally when I bought at a local brick-and-mortar store, but not nearly as frequently. Puzzled.

Thanks for your post. Your report is certainly unusual. We’d like to have you call our Consumer Affairs department at 1-800-445-5777 M-F, 8-5 CST to make a report and understand more about storage.

We want our pet parents to know that Hill’s cares deeply about product safety and quality. We manufacture 100% of our dry pet foods in our own manufacturing facilities under the supervision of Hill’s employees. Due to our stringent quality and safety programs, we are confident in the safety of our products. Since 2007, Hill’s has invested millions of dollars in our facilities, manufacturing practices and formulas to reduce the risk of food safety issues. In fact, Hill’s performs over 1,000 tests for salmonella at our manufacturing plants every month, and we do not release products from our facilities until our food safety testing is complete

We do recommend storing the food in the original bag. The bag should be stored in a cool, dry environment under 100°F (38°C). This is to prevent destruction of vitamins and oxidation of fats leading to rancidity. Pet foods will retain their best flavor if stored in the original bag, which provides a fat barrier. Storage at temperatures of 120°F (48°C) for more than 48 hours can accelerate the normal degradation or destruction of the vitamins.

My Little One loves this food., November 13, 2008

My kitten loves this food. It was the food that she had when she was at the shelter and my vet carries the Hill Science Diet Line for both dogs and cats. She rushes to her bowl when she hears the dry kitten food falling into her bowl.
